Fashion reimagined
Q&A with Megan Doyle, Amy Powney and Daniel Gotz.
Romantica magazine today took part in the screening of the movie Fashion Reimagined about sustainability in the fashion industry from the designer and creative director and activist Amy Powney of Mother of Pearl. Romantica magazine also took part to a Q&A with the designer and the director of photography of Fashion Reimagined Daniel Gotz. The movie showed the process of Amy Powney and her team researching the materials and following their supply chain processes for the development of the collection of Mother of Pearl. They went in Austria and Uruguay to find the right wool produced sustainably respecting humans and the environment. They also explored Turkey for sustainable cotton. The movie is so relevant today due to the importance that sustainability is playing in the fashion industry today and Amy Powney and her team were pioneers in opening the doors in the industry to this topic through their sustainable designs. It was so inspiring to watch this movie and moving too to see the commitment of the designer to the world environmental issues and how she really made a difference though hard work and commitment. As a young person part of the fashion industry, I feel like the responsibility is truly now onto us the new generations to make a difference and be more aware of sustainability as professionals and as consumers. Not just for us but also for the future of the children and of the environment. Amy Powney said about the industry improving its actions around traceability: “Research and development in the textile industry is improving quickly. Innovation in terms of production of fibres and dyes is also improving and there is a lot of investment on that too. The legislation will change the industry with traceability. Legislation might be the only way.” She added
“…For the future I want to take Mother of Pearl to the next level and think about climate activism.”
